BUDGET WORKSHOPS HELD IN CENTRAL SQUARE AND BOONVILLE

Summary:
  Representatives from the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) Syracuse Regional Office traveled to Tug Hill on February 26th and 28th to provide budget process training to local government officials.  The workshops were very well attended with 11 village officials at the training in Central Square and over 25 town and village officials at the workshop in Boonville.

The workshop session was presented by Laird Petrie, associate examiner with the OSC Division of Local Government and School Accountability.  Attendees received detailed budget figures for their community from the lastfive years.  Information was then presented to help local officials understand the short and long term merits of financial planning.  Specific information was provided regarding the components of a budget, the parties responsible for formulating and reviewing the budget, what  tools and resources are available for com-munities in the budget process, and how to monitor and change the budget.  Additional information and budget process handouts are available at OSC's website at:http://www.osc.state.ny.us/

Mr.  Petrie will also be presenting two work-shops at the Tug Hill Commission's Local Government Conference on March 27.  Accounting for Capital Projects will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and Budgeting 202 will be from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
