New NOCCOG Circuit Rider Hired

The Northern Oneida County Council of Governments has a new Circuit Rider.  The New York State Tug Hill Commission has hired Maria L. Fibiger, resident of North Bay, to serve as Circuit Rider to the 19 member towns/villages of NOCCOG and liaison to the Tug Hill Commission.  Maria will begin serving the communities of NOCCOG July 14th .  Ms. Fibiger replaces Steve Hunter, who retired June 2nd.

Maria was selected from a pool of 28 applicants.  Arnie Talgo, Vice Chair of NOCCOG and member of the selection committee said, “I am very confident Maria will quickly gain the respect and confidence in her ability to provide the service that we have come to appreciate over the years”.

Maria has a varied and accomplished career in community development, program management, grant research, and public administration.  In addition, she has served on various non-profit organization boards and an appointment as a grant selection panelist for the NYS Council of the Arts.  According to Robert Sauer, Chairman of NOCCOG and a member of the selection committee, “she has excellent communication skills to complement her strong background in the legislative processes, community outreach and public relations.  These attributes will be an asset to NOCCOG”.

Maria states that she is, “looking forward to getting out into the field to meet local officials over the coming weeks as part of an information exchange that will define my new role in providing local government assistance”.

Comprised of 19 towns and villages in northern Oneida County, NOCCOG is one of 5 Councils of Government (COG) located within the Tug Hill region.  The COG provides shared services to member communities through the full-time circuit rider and two part-time assistant circuit riders under the auspices of the Tug Hill Commission.

The Tug Hill Commission is a state agency that provides technical assistance and training to local government officials and service organizations to communities within the Tug Hill region in areas of planning, community & economic development, and natural resources.  A volunteer board of local residents appointed by the Governor and state legislature governs it.
